Possibly one of the most beautiful ‘Love at First Sight’ stories we have ever heard. After only eight days, Suzy Dabner and Alexander Farrimond decided to tie the knot. The big day was held at the stunning Hever Castle, for a wedding that was classed as ‘a little bit of Italy in the heart of Kent’. Here is Suzy’s story about how she became Mrs Farrimond at one of the most beautiful locations in the UK.
“I have always been slightly cynical about marriage and the pursuit of true love, so you can imagine my surprise when I met Alexander and agreed to marry him after only eight days! Unfortunately we didn’t have the easiest start to our engagement, ten days after the proposal we were getting into a taxi with our dog Honey when a drunk driver smashed into the back of it. The car hit me and trapped Honey under the front wheel, I suffered several severe facial fractures and swelling on my brain, Honey was left paralysed.
From that moment Alexander didn’t leave my side. I knew I wanted to marry him when I met him but there is nothing that says “Knight in Shining Armour” quite like a man who nurses you back to health and helps rehabilitate your injured dog.
We started looking for venues that would fit around my injuries and a Court Case, I had my heart set on getting married in Italy, but after a disastrous trip to the Amalfi Coast, Alexander and I agreed to get married closer to home.
When one of my bridesmaids suggested the Italian Gardens, a little bit of Italy in the heart of Kent, I was concerned about rain and an outside ceremony but on our first show round in a torrential downpour in late September, both of us got stopped in our tracks when we walked into the Italian Gardens, literally taking our breath away even on a grey rainy day and the decision was made then and there.
The date was set, the countdown was on! We knew we wanted to use local suppliers as much as possible and we were so lucky finding the people we did. The idea of finding “The Dress” was daunting, but I found it on the second attempt when I tried it on as an afterthought and instantly got butterflies!
Every single thing worked out beautifully, from the flowers to the cakes to the videographer (who has just started out in business and he and his team were exceptional!).
The wonderful thing about the Italian Gardens is that they are so beautiful with all of the flowers in bloom that they don’t actually need much decorating and what we did have we made ourselves; my mum did all the name places and seating chart, my dad made the cake stand and Alex and I did the table numbers!
The staff at Hever deserve a special mention: without them, our day would not have been as seamless as it was and our photographers completed the perfection.
It really was a magical day for us; the sun shone like we were actually in Italy, everything ran smoothly and Honey the dog even managed to walk the red carpet with my bridesmaids. It was a day filled with so much love, laughter and friendship and it really was the best day of our lives.”
- Invest in wedge shoes or flip-flops to wear later on, being on your feet all day makes your feet hurt!!
- Buy cheap flip-flops for the guests as favours, they will be eternally grateful.
- We invited our evening guests in time for all of the speeches and first dance; they have all said how lovely it was to get to see them.
