23rd January 2015

After the initial excitement of the proposal the first thing the bride and groom will decide upon will be the wedding date, even if that’s just a season or month within a given year. Whilst one of the main deciding factors will simply be personal preference (I love the summer!), another deciding factor will be the budget and how long it will take you to save up for your dream wedding.

It might not take you as long as you think however; if you’re able to be flexible, do your research and ask the right questions.

The majority of venues have peak and off peak days and periods and will often offer separate prices for the two, although you still may not be willing to get married on a Tuesday afternoon in January, just to get a cheaper deal and nor should you have to.  If you’re flexible on dates and ready to go, ask about late availability packages as you’re in a strong position to get a great deal. You shouldn’t be afraid to ask what peak dates the venue still has left, whether there are any peak dates they haven’t been able to sell and which dates they’re keen to get booking in on.

Most venues consider a wedding in six months time quite ‘short lead’ and they know that time is running out to book it. They may be tempted to offer a reduced rate if asked for it.

Whilst cancellations and postponements are rare, they are not unheard of, which can also free up a peak dates that the venue will be keen to re-sell. So if you find a venue you love, but know perhaps you couldn’t quite afford it, why not ask them to contact you if they do have a cancellation. It could be win-win for both.

Many venues, such as the stunning The Domus at Beaulieu that we sell, get booked up for Saturday’s during the summer around a year or so in advance. However many are now offering amazing all inclusive late deals. Beaulieu for example is offering all-inclusive packages for a limited number of Saturday’s in July 2015 which also includes complimentary accommodation for the Bride and Groom. This example provides a whopping saving of around 30%.

If you’re flexible with dates and are willing to take the plunge within 6 to 9 months of the engagement, it’s possible to get your dream venue with a very healthy saving indeed!
